Dear Mr. Teiffel: I am sending the summary critique of your recent internship with Mainlight Media, Inc., The business is incorporated under State of Oregon law and is designated as a subchapter S corporation for federal and state taxes. As a closely held corporation with two stockholders, the subchapter S has many tax advantages over the more common C corporation with hundreds of stockholders. The mission of Mainlight Media is to provide quality media production services to consumers and businesses needing photography, video production and computer imaging. The business is a member studio of Kodak's Promise of Excellence program, the Beaverton Area Chamber of Commerce and the Aloha Business Association. The principal is Gordon F. Teifel, the owner, photographer and coordinator of the business. I am a member of Professional Photographers of America, Professional Photographers of Oregon and active in the Aloha-Beaverton community. Mainlight Media is located in Washington County, one of 36 Oregon counties. The Silicon Forest is an appropriate nickname for this area with the presence of Intel, Tektronix, Sequent, Nike, Addidas USA, Lattice and other worldwide companies. During your seven-week internship, Mr. Teiffel, you set significant goals, accomplished many tasks and increased competence in a variety of skills. An e-mail message August 22, 1998 from you targeted the goals of learning more about computer imaging, tape-slide programs, the digital camera and photo restoration. Your accomplishments include an initial mastery of computer scanning, correction, enhancement, and output to six color inkjet photographs. You added background music to an 8mm film to VHS tape transfer, similar to adding sound to a tape-slide program. You captured with a digital video still image to computer file, resized, improved contrast, corrected color, wrote copy and assigned hues to several business cards. You especially excelled at photographic restoration, taking a variety of originals, scanning the art on either film or flatbed, assessing the extent of necessary improvements, performing the revisions and printing the finished work. In Adobe Photoshop you established macro key commands, repeatable actions were assigned for making a full sheet of wallets, a pair of 5x7s, a quad of 4x5s, rotating an image 90 or 180 degrees, changing to grayscale and predetermined restoration levels. Beyond your established goals, you additionally created traditional darkroom enlargements, dust spotted photographs and completely reworked the business website into a professional appearance. Exceeding the expected goals with your performance will please other employers as well. You began your internship with some prior Macintosh work experience, but ended your training with a wealth of Mac platform competence. The PC platformexperience was deepened with email, word processing, family tree and Internet digital video applications. An abundance of equipment and software allowed you to mold raw materials into packaged presentations.
